Wisconsin Democratic Convention

Chair Deatrick spent the weekend at the Wisconsin Democratic Party's State Convention in Madison, connecting with delegates, candidates, and organizers across one of the country's tightest battleground states. She also joined the Young Democrats of America's Wisconsin reception, meeting with youth leaders building the next generation of climate organizing.

Speaking to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Environmental Caucus — one of the most active environmental caucuses in the country, chaired by Vik Verma — Chair Deatrick made the case that winning back Congress this fall begins with organizing, and that climate and the environment are winning issues for Democrats. She tied the climate crisis directly to the affordability crisis families are feeling at the pump, at the grocery store, and on their electric bills, and urged caucus members to knock doors, recruit volunteers, and turn out the environmental vote.

Chair Deatrick also spoke at the convention's Politics of Place: How Climate Candidates Win on Water, Energy & Conservation in Wisconsin training session — a workshop reframing stewardship, energy infrastructure, public lands, and water as broadly shared Wisconsin values. Her remarks focused on the rapid spread of hyperscale data centers and rising energy costs, the sleeper issue she sees moving fast in communities across the country, and on why Democrats should lead in holding billion-dollar corporations accountable when they come looking for cheap power, tax breaks, and special treatment.
