Council’s Third National Listening & Organizing Tour: Louisiana
Chair Deatrick spoke, listened and organized at townhalls, panels and community meetings, met with College Democrats across Louisiana, and toured environmental justice sites including Cancer Alley, an 85 mile stretch of the Mississippi River which houses communities - and also 200+ petrochemical and fossil fuel plants..
The Tour included meetings with students on five campuses — Louisiana State University Shreveport, Louisiana Tech University, Grambling State University, Tulane University, and the University of Louisiana Monroe. Bioneer Project Manager Britt Gandolfi, an Indigenous leader who grew up in the toxic shadow of Cancer Alley, generously spent a day helping Chair Deatrick witness and learn. Gratitude to Louisiana Democratic Party Vice Chair Katie Darling for organizing a powerful organizing tour.
