Council Spring Meeting at the DNC Convening in New Orleans
The Council held its Spring Meeting on April 9th as an official event of the DNC's Spring Convening in New Orleans, with an informal reception preceding the formal session. The meeting drew an enthusiastic crowd of DNC members and of Democrats from across the country, with attendees traveling from as far as Florida, Maine and Wisconsin.
Dr. Alicia Johnson, who made history by flipping a statewide Public Service Commission seat blue in the 2025 Georgia election, delivered keynote remarks. Panels and speakers addressed Louisiana's climate and environmental justice challenges, the importance of the youth vote, and climate as a winning issue for Democrats.
Speakers included Angelle Bradford of the Louisiana Sierra Club, Britt Gondolfi of Bioneers, Tulane University College Democrat Mekhi Reddix-Stennis, Whit Jones of Lead Locally, and Louisiana Democratic Party Vice Chair Katie Darling.
The Young Democrats of America's Environmental Caucus co-hosted the meeting.
